The Rohingya minority in Myanmar (Burma) is regarded by the United Nations as one of the world’s most persecuted communities. Denied citizenship in the country of their birth, they lack access to necessities like food and water and basic services including medicines, education and free movement. The Rohingya have suffered decades of oppression. thousands of people have been killed, and hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes.
Since the violence broke out in 2012, the Burmese government has severely restricted aid to the 200,000 Rohingya living in camps. UN representatives have described them as some of the worst camps they have ever seen.
