Official statement by Minhaj Welfare Foundation (MWF) regarding attacks in London

We are deeply saddened to hear of the brutal attacks on innocent members of the public in London. We condemn such attacks in the strongest possible terms. We pray for those who have been killed or injured, and send our deepest sympathies to their families. We applaud the prompt actions of the police and emergency services, who truly do us all proud. These terrible acts are an affront to humanity.

Terrorism and the ideology of it also hijacks the religion of Islam and perverts its message of peace and cohesion. While MWF has several programs supporting victims of terrorism, our donors all around the world also continuously support initiatives designed to empower and counter the narrative of extremism and terrorism in the name of Islam.

The founder of MWF Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri is seen as a leading authority in denouncing and countering the extremist ideology by authoring books like the renowned Fatwa on Terrorism and Suicide Bombings and compendiums like the Peace Education Curriculum. Minhaj College Manchester (A project of MWF) is aimed exactly towards providing a curriculum that empowers our younger generation with a counter narrative in the face of increasing attempts of hijacking Islam by a perverted extremist ideology in the name of Islam.

We believe It is the duty of all responsible citizens and of civil society to not just condemn these acts, but to combat extremism in all its forms, countering its ideological foundations and dealing with the factors that produce such terrorists. There is never any excuse or pretext for terrorism, and terrorists, according to the teachings of Islam, are NOT Muslims

(Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, Fatwa on Terrorism & Suicide Bombings, p.321).
